Composite Resin (tooth-colored) Fillings:

In the past, teeth cavities were repaired using metal, either amalgam (silver-colored) or gold fillings. Today, more and more patients choose to go with tooth-colored fillings, which are made to match the color of natural teeth. Tooth-colored fillings are strong, long-lasting and virtually invisible!

Crowns or Caps:

If a tooth has been damaged and requires a substantial restoration, your dentist may choose to repair it using a dental crown (also called a “cap”). A crown usually covers the entire enamel surface of the tooth. Crowns are very effective for restoring the look and functionality of chipped, broken or weakened teeth. They are usually put into position after a root canal has taken place.

Dental Bonding:

Dental bonding uses composite resin to repair chips and cracks in teeth, as well as to cover up discolored areas. A dentist applies the composite layer-by-layer to match the natural tooth. The composite is hardened with a laser and polished to a high shine once it's set.

Dental Bridges:

A dental bridge usually consists of two crowns with a false tooth “bridged” between. The dentist places the crowns on the teeth adjacent to the gap for strength and stability. Other options for replacing missing teeth include partial dentures and dental implants.

Dental Implants:

Dental implants are false teeth that are permanently secured to the jaw with a small titanium rod. They are used to replace missing teeth.

Inlays/Onlays:

Dental inlays and onlays are materials used to strengthen and repair decayed or otherwise damaged rear teeth. They are usually made of porcelain.

Removables:

"Removables" refers to a range of denture products that are used to replace missing teeth.

  • Overdentures are fitted over remaining teeth and are more stable than full dentures. For full dentures, some remaining teeth may need to be extracted.
  • Partial dentures are used for patients who have lost relatively few teeth. They prevent shifting of other teeth and recreate the smile.

Today's dentures are extremely well-made and can be customized to fit perfectly within the mouth. Often, they are indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Root Canals:

When a tooth is badly infected, the dentist may perform a root canal to remove the decay. After the tooth has been cleaned out, it is filled with a temporary material while a crown is fabricated. The dentist will place the crown at a later visit.

Teeth Whitening:

Teeth whitening uses bleach or other materials to make teeth look whiter. These materials work by removing stains or other discolorations that appear on the surfaces of teeth. Staining can be caused by coffee, cigarettes, certain medications, and even the normal process of aging.

While a number of teeth whitening options exist, most experts agree that professional whitening products, purchased through a dentist's office, are superior to over-the-counter home whiteners. This is because a dentist will provide you with a custom-fitted tray for even coverage, and because dental whitening gels are stronger and more effective than the formulas that are approved for sale in stores.

Venus White is a mint-flavored, whitening gel that you can get through your dentist's office. It's made using carbamide peroxide, which has a longer working time than hydrogen peroxide. It comes in two strengths – 16% and 22% - to best fit your individual whitening needs. Venus White is easy to use and works quickly to whiten your teeth up to 7 shades!

Veneers:

Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, thin porcelain shells that are used to cover chipped, cracked or discolored teeth. Porcelain veneers are attached to the front of teeth with bonding cement and set with a special curing light. Veneers are highly resistant to wear, and usually last for around 10 years.
